CY PRES
Consider Fair Employment Project when directing a cy pres award. Any award, large or small, will be put to excellent use.
Fair Employment Project is pleased to report that we have been the recipient of cy pres awards (unclaimed funds) in recent years arising out of workplace class and collective actions. We have received, for example:
$40,000 from a class action brought by satellite-dish installers owed unpaid wages and overtime under Massachusetts and New York wage and hour laws, and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
$17,000 from a class action settlement brought by hourly workers against a nationwide retailer that allegedly rounded employee start and end times in way that systematically benefited the employer.
$10,000 from a class action settlement brought by a Massachusetts home health agency’s employees who traveled between clients' homes without being paid for intraday travel time.
$2,000 from a class action for unpaid wages and overtime against a car dealership in Massachusetts.

VOLUNTEER
If you are an attorney or law student interested in helping workers combat violations of their employment civil rights, FEP could use your help. We provide training. Most volunteers work one or two days per week. Flexible hours. Spanish-speakers and Haitian-Creole speakers are especially needed.
